It's a heck of a year to be born a Bengals fan...

Hi Everybody,

Linda, Jim and Tony here. We're having a quiet, restful Sunday afternoon right now, waiting for the Bengal's game to start and get their weekly butt-kicking. Tony came home Thursday night and plans to drive up to Madison tomorrow and then drive back next weekend, when Beth will fly in to meet him here. Last weekend, we had a great visit in Wilmington. We went furniture shopping, and picked out some bedroom furniture so we wouldn't have to live out of suitcases at the town home. Can you believe Linda picked out both a bedroom and a comforter in only two days?

Eli is old enough to go out on some of these trips, and Andrea and Chris are able to go out to dinner with Eli in tow. He's been really well behaved on these trips. At home, his nickname is "Squirmy Worm", because of the way he moves all of his limbs when he's on the floor. He's also growing like a weed, weighing over 11lbs now. Hard to believe he's eleven weeks old already. You may recognize Eli's picture from Andrea and Chris' website. Sorry Andrea, but it was too cute to only use once. Sunday night, we got to have dinner with Jeff Tarvin, who was coming in to stay at one of his many homes in Carolina Beach (inside joke). The Tarvins, you may remember, are our high school and college friends who opened their home to us when we were visiting Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

Obviously, for us to do all those things, Linda was feeling pretty good and the Nexavar seemed to be working well. We went out twice with Tony Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, the side effects caught up with her this week. Nexavar causes blisters to form on the hands and feet, and Linda had one on her knuckle that got infected. Her fingertips also get very sore and makes things such as buttoning buttons and zipping zippers very difficult. When we saw Bhandari on Friday, he was very concerned about the infection and started Linda on IV and oral antibiotics right away. He also said to stop taking Nexavar for the weekend. While the infection seems to be clearing up, Linda is already noticing the absence of the cancer fighting drug. She's stuck on the couch feeling a little puny right now. We're looking forward to Monday just to get back to the regular drug regimen

That's all for now. Go Bengals!
Linda, Jim and Tony

Cute baby! We hope the return to the drug goes well. Chicago is lamenting the Cubs; we could care less. Looking forward to seeing you both in the near future.
Love,
Kathy & Jack

That is the cutest picture ever! So great to hear you've been able to enjoy visits with Eli and a little retail therapy! Watching the Bengals game has it's own unpleasant side effects so be careful!

Love and miss you!

Congratulations Jim and Linda! It may not bear repeating given all the praise on this blog, but I can't help but join the chorus - Wowsers! Elliot "Eli" James Talley is super cute!

You've been in my thoughts as of late, and certainly moreso ever since I touched base with Susan a short while ago and learned of Linda's tremendous struggles with cancer. It's very generous of you both to share these events with those that care about you. I've appreciated getting to "catch up" with you two, to the exent that's possible, on your blog. I can't say enough about how positively impressed I am with your fighting spirit. You two are an inspiration. I wish you all the best, and I hope that comfort is finding you both in your quieter and in-between moments.

Much love,

Chandra

Hi Linda, Jim,
after having tried to reach you frequently and in many different ways, I finally found this blog.
I've spent most of the day reading the entries posted since last September.
Can't express my thoughts.
In search for a trace I had found Tony's website and I sent him a mail.
But now I've decided to sent a comment to your blog.
It crossed my mind instantly, that you must have been severely ill, when you organized the postcards from the USA for Kathrin's wedding on August 18th 2007. And you didn't tell.
It was a great comfort to read, how well Jim, your children, friends and neighbours take care of you. You are one of the kindest, most generous persons, I#ve met in my life.I would have liked to visit you.

Supposedly there's no better cure or treatment here in Germany than the ones you get in the USA. So there's nothing for me to find out or do. Or is there?
I wish I could do something for you. I wish I had found this blog earlier.
In our kitchen , there are a few photos taped to the wall. One of them shows you and Jim, Klaus and myself in the "Upstart Crow", the only halfway acceptable pub in Lexington 1976.
32 years ago you organized, more or less on this day, a baby-shower for me.

Linda, we'll be thinking of you. I hope, you're without pain at the moment an can enjoy your beautiful grandchild.

Love

Christa & Klaus
