Hospice

Jim again. Linda's condition continued to deteriorate over the weekend. By Monday, she was becoming less responsive and a bit disoriented. She has not left the bedroom since Friday, and only gets out of bed to use the bathroom. There was no way we would be able to get her to the doctor's office for her shot tomorrow, and according to the doctor, the injection was likely to cause fever and chills and other flu-like symptoms as well. I didn't want her to be any more uncomfortable that she already was, so after speaking with her doctor yesterday, I made the difficult decision to discontinue treatment and call Hospice. He felt that her condition is being caused by disease progression and was irreversible at this point.
Linda is not in any pain, not taking any pain medication, seems to sleep comfortably at night and rests comfortably but fitfully during the day. There is an army of neighbors standing by for anything she or I need. Tony arrived last night, and Andrea, Chris and Eli are expected any minute. So please don't worry, we are doing as well as can be expected for now.
In fact, Andrea and the gang just got in, so I have to go. Linda most likely won't be writing the posts from here on out, but I read all the comments to her as they arrive, and she receives strength and comfort from each and every message. We'll keep you posted, as they say.
Luv ya,
Jim

Linda, and the entire Wimmers Family. You are in my constant thoughts and prayers. May God's love, peace, and wisdom fill your wrenched hearts as you care for her. For all of us who are blessed to know Linda, she filled our hearts to their capacity with her never-ending selfless love. We all wonder how we will continue with that huge void in our hearts. As I read the other blog entries, I too think of all those songs that she inspired us with. One of my favorites is "You Raise Me Up."
Love you forever, Sue N

Linda and Family, This is a prayer that has helped bring me peace:

Come Now
Come now, live in us.
Let us stay in You,
since if we be all in You,
we cannot be far from one another,
though some may be in heaven
and some upon earth.

I love you, Linda. Becky

Linda and family, there are no words to express the positive effect you have all had on my life, and so many others. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It is mind boggling to think of all the lives you have impacted, all the hugs and positive comments, all the random acts of kindness and prayers and love you have shared. The song lyrics that keep going through my head are "This is what it means, to be held, how it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life, and you survive. This is what it means to be loved, and to know, that the promise was when everything fell, we'd be held." May you all feel the warmth and comfort of God's embrace.
Love ya always,
Lora

Linda,
You have never left my thoughts since a year ago in September when you gave us your news. Memories of all of the great times we have shared have carried me through; and I have treasured every minute we were able to spend together since then, as few as they have been. You will always be with me, and I will always love you. Thank you for being my friend. Love and peace to you and your family.

Linda, Jim, Andrea, Tony,

You are so loved by so many people. Me especially. I feel you are like my other family, and if I ever needed a substitute mom, dad or sibling, I couldn't do better than you guys.

Linda, I'm sorry I couldn't visit with you when I was over yesterday, but I didn't want my crazy kid storming the castle. She was happy to meet Eli and I'm glad they got a chance to. I hope I'll have another chance to stop by this week and give your hand a squeeze. I hope you know the Jacksons (and Wenners) are all praying for you and thinking of you.

This Thanksgiving, I will be thankful to know you.

Love,
Susan
