A Disappointing Change in Plans

The news from the CT scan was not good. Dr. McDermott came in this morning and explained that Linda's trouble with eating and nausea is likely due to the tumor in her abdomen pushing against her large intestines. He told us that this tumor, as well as the tumors in her lungs are growing much faster than anyone expected. For this reason, he recommended against continuing the IL-2 treatment. He said that even if effective, it might not act quickly enough and we would lose precious weeks waiting to see what would happen.

The other treatments, such as Sutent, can shrink the tumors and in some cases have worked for a couple of years, but do not have the chance of a permanent, long term solution that we were hoping to get from the IL-2. So for now, they recommended that we head back to Cincinnati and they will contact our oncologists there to work out an effective treatment plan as soon as possible. So we will return tomorrow.

This is all disappointing news, but we are not giving up, and we know you won't either. And we will need your support now more than ever.

Luv ya all,

Linda, Jim, Tony and Andrea

Linda, Jim, Andrea, Tony,

I don't know how much you got to talk to my friend Linda's brother, Lloyd, and his wife, about his very similar battle with renal cell cancer...

But it is similar even in this disappointing change of plans, which I hope continues to encourage you, as just finding someone who's already been there, done that, did in the beginning of all this.

Lloyd had his kidney removed 4 years ago. 18 months later, at Christmastime, he found that he had renal cell cancer, with tumors in his lungs, etc. Plan A was the IL2. It didn't work for him. They were devastated because it was supposed to be Plan A. They went to Plan B, which did work for him for awhile.

This Christmas it will be 3 years from Plan A, 4 years from having his kidney removed.

They are currently on Plan D or E, similar to Plan B in that they are not plans that are expected to be permanent; yet, all the Plans, in conjunction, have thus far kept it at bay.

All the while we keep praying for THE PLAN: that God would be Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals, to Lloyd...and to you, Linda.

I know these things are easy for me to sit here and type; they feel very cheap when I wish them to be so much more.

If there is anything I can do for you, I am just around the corner and happily at your service.

Mrs. Wimmers,
I don't really have the words to express myself right now... all I can really do is tell you that if anyone can get through an ordeal like this, it's you. I know that everything can be overwhelming, and that it's very scary. (My best friend was just diagnosed with cervical cancer.) However, I think that one of the biggest factors when it comes to being a survivor is your support system. It's obvious to me that there are so many people thinking about you, praying for you, and wanting to help you. I know that this, along with the spirit that you've always had, can help you get through this.

Love you so much Mrs. Wimmers, hang in there.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Wimmers,
I agree with Tom's and Kelly's response of "damn it", and I hope you don't mind me adding that it really sucks, bleep, bleep, bleep. :/

I have to say I'm a little familiar with cancer's disappointing news when my mom's cancer came back after a year and a half. And I remember thinking, 'DAMN! We almost got away.'

We were forced right back into contributing to my mom's healing through our faith, prayers, hugs, phone calls, positive thoughts, a grandiose Love and this...this, "Your-Not-Going-Anywhere-Yet-Lady" attitude.

Oooh how precious Moms are, and Mrs. Wimmers, you are no exception! So, you just sit back and keep those massages coming. Do what it takes to feel good everyday, and open yourself up for the healing because 'Your Not Going Anywhere Yet Lady!'

Much, much Love and my heart,
Olivia
